*New: Take 5 movies for 7 days from your library!
All borrowers must be registered and must have a valid local patron card to borrow library materials. Loan periods are: 3 weeks for books, books on tape, and books on CD; 2 weeks for new books and best sellers; 7 days for DVDs; 1 week for non-current issues of periodicals. A patron may borrow up to 25 items at one time, with no more than 5 DVDs at one time.
All borrowers must be registered and must have a valid local patron card to borrow library materials. Patrons must fill out an application form to register for a new library card. Identification is required. A driver’s license or student ID is preferred, but another official ID or recent non-personal piece of mail may be acceptable.
Applicants under 14 years of age must have a parent or guardian give their consent on the application form before a new card can be issued. This parental signature is not required for children who are renewing cards.
Materials cannot be checked out until a library card is issued.
All library cards expire after two (2) years. In order to renew a library card, patrons must produce identification and must clear all outstanding fines and bills.
B. Lost or forgotten cards
If a patron loses his/her library card, he should notify the library as soon as possible and request a replacement. The cost for a replacement card will be $2.00. All patrons must bring their library cards with them if they intend to check out items or use the computers.
Patrons should safeguard their library cards if they are concerned about access or privacy. Unless a card has been reported lost or stolen, library staff will assume that possession of a library card by a spouse, parent, or even an unrelated individual implies that the cardholder authorizes that individual access to his/her library records.
C. Loan periods
1. Three (3) weeks for books, books-on-tape and books-on-CD
2. Two (2) weeks with no renewal possible for new books and best sellers
3. Books may be renewed once if there is not a waiting list for the title.
4. Generally, reference books do not circulate. Upon request, some reference materials may be checked out overnight.
5. Interlibrary loans are due the date indicated by the lending library
6. Current issues of periodicals do not circulate.
7. Non-current periodicals for one (1) week
8. Movie DVDs may be borrowed for one (1) week
9. Non-fiction DVDs for one (1) week
The director may establish the loan period for special collections, materials which are temporarily in great demand, such as for student projects, or materials added to the collection that are in a new format.
There is a limit of twenty five (25) items a patron can borrow at one time, with no more than five (5) VHS/DVD in that total of fourteen items.
Reserves may be placed by patrons either in person, through the library’s online catalog, or over the phone. Patrons will be notified by telephone or email when the materials become available. Reserved materials must be picked up within three (3) days of notification or the item will be offered to the next name on the reserve list.
E. Fines and charges
A first notice is sent out after the material is due. A fine of five (5) cents per day is charged for each day past the due date for all materials except videos. The fine for videos will be $1.00 for each day past due. Anyone having an unpaid fine will not be allowed to withdraw materials until the fine is paid. Materials overdue more than four (4) weeks, including lost or damaged materials, will be considered lost and must be paid for at the current replacement cost plus a $5.00 processing fee. Fines will accrue until the item is returned or paid for. If the value of the item is unknown, a $30.00 charge will be assessed plus the processing fee.
F. Damaged materials
If materials are damaged so as to be judged by the library as being unsuitable for the collection, the patron must pay the replacement cost. A notice of these charges will be sent to the borrower. If value is unknown, a $30.00 replacement charge plus a $5.00 processing fee will be charged.
