700 Series: Dan Schwanke glass paintings exhibit
The Mercer Public Library’s 700 Series features paintings on glass by Mercer native Dan Schwanke through the month of June.
Schwanke is a self-taught artist who began working with Crystal Craze paint on repurposed glass in the 1970s. Inspired by nature and his spirituality, he depicts images of animals, floral designs and religious subjects. His method and materials allow him to express himself in a manner similar to folk artists; he uses utilitarian materials like windows and glass from picture frames to portray subjects that the viewer can easily recognize.
The Dewey Decimal library classification system arranges books by discipline. Books related to the Arts are assigned numbers between 700 and 799. The Library’s 700 Series brings art off the pages and onto the walls by displaying the works of local artists.
The paintings will be on display to view during regular library hours: Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. - 7 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. - Noon. The Mercer Public Library is located at 2648 W Margaret Street in Mercer, Wisconsin. For more information on the exhibit please call the Mercer Library at 715-476-2366.
