Here you will find information on how to use your library: get a library card, search our online catalog, request books and movies, and use the other resources available at the Mercer Public Library. If you ever have questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact a librarian.

All residents, property owners, and visitors to the Mercer area are welcome to apply for a Merlin card from the Mercer Public Library. Your card is good at nearly 30 libraries in the Northern Waters Library System. You will be asked to fill out a simple application form, and children under the age of 14 are required to have a parent/guardian signature on their application form.

Download a Card Application Form (PDF) - Print and fill out this application form, and bring it to the Mercer Library to get your very own Merlin card!

The library will serve all customers who request service.  Service will not be denied or abridged because of religious, racial, social, economic, or political status; or because of mental, emotional, or physical condition; age; or sexual orientation.

The Merlin catalog is the catalog of the Northern Waters Library Service. Here you will find items from the 30+ libraries in the NWLS service area. Books, CDs, DVDs, videos, books on tape and CD, and more can be ordered from any library in the system, and items will be delivered to the library of your choice for you to pick up at your convenience. The online catalog can also be used to view and renew items you currently have checked out.

With a library card you can request, renew, save searches and save your reading history.

Simple Word Search: Type key words in the Quick Search form.

Advanced Search Form: Use the Advanced Search form to easily narrow your search.

How to renew: With a library card you can renew your own materials online. Materials with reserves, movies, and "new" items are not renewable.
  1. Log into your record and click "Items currently checked out"
  2. Check the boxes of the materials you want to renew. Click the Renew Selected button.
  3. To renew everything, click the Renew ALL button.
  4. Check the "Status" column for new due dates. A message will appear if items cannot be renewed.

The Mercer Public Library uses the "Pharos" internet management system on our public access computers. Your login ID is your library card number (with no spaces) and your password is your birthdate, entered in the MM-DD-YYYY format including the hyphens.

Patrons over the age of 18 who do not hold a library card and who are just "passing through" the area may request a temporary card from library staff.

Patrons under 18 are REQUIRED to have a parent/guardian's signature on the Mercer Library's Computer/Internet Usage Agreement form on file at the library. No one under 18 will be permitted to use a computer on their own card or on anyone else's unless the agreement form has been signed. There are no filters on library computers, and the Mercer Public Library takes no responsibility for the content found on the internet.

Our WiFi network is unrestricted, and is available to any wireless devices within range. Please use appropriate caution, as the library is not responsible for securing the data transmitted over our WiFi network. No password is required, and the WiFi network is normally available from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., 7 days a week.

Printing is available from the library's computers for a nominal fee: 10¢ B&W, 20¢ double-sided B&W; 25¢ color. Photo paper may be available for an additional charge.
