I want to recommend The Magician's Elephant, written by Kate DiCamillo and illustrated by Yoko Tanka, to any kids who love magic.
The Magician's Elephant is about a young boy, in England at about 1898, whose parents died due to a war. A soldier who served with his father takes care of him and tries to teach him about war. His sister who supposedly died at birth is alive, according to a fortune teller, and he can find her with an elephant. This sounds absurd, until a magician brings an elephant crashing through the roof of an opera house. What will happen to the boy? Will he find his sister?
Find out what happens to him, and the elephant in The Magician's Elephant.
