Wisconsin's "Read to Lead" initiative is designed to encourage kids all over Wisconsin to keep reading, and now even the Department of Transportation has gotten into the action!
Kids up to age 10 can read 10 books related to transportation (cars, trucks, trains, boats, and more) and enter to win prizes - or a ride with a State Trooper!

Dream Big - Read!
Summer Reading Program 2012 at the Mercer Public Library
Readers are invited to visit the Mercer Library this summer and "Dream Big - Read!" We have a full schedule of activities, stories, fun crafts, and special presentations for kids of all ages to enjoy.
Kids from toddlers to incoming 8th graders are also welcome to take the Summer Reading Challenge. Early points by doing things you already love - reading, visiting the library, attending library programs, talking about the books you read, and more. Then cash in your points for rewards like t-shirts, toys, coupons to local businesses, and more.
Mercer School kids can count their summer reading titles towards both the Mercer Library Reading Challenge, and the Mercer School Home Run Reading Program. It's two great deals in one!

The Wisconsin DNR has announced a new program to encourage kids to read anywhere, including outdoors in your state parks!
Each week in 2012, a book and a Wisconsin state park will be featured. Kids ages 5 to 9 are invited to read about the outdoors, and kids who read 20 or more books in 2012 can enter to win a Kindle Fire or one of 10 eReaders.
Northern Wisconsin is full of state and national parks, forests and recreation areas. Within an easy drive of Mercer, you'll find the Copper Falls State Park, Northern Highland American Legion State Forest, Big Bay State Park, Flambeau River State Forest, portions of the North Country Trail, the Ice Age Trail, the Bearskin Trail, and many more. Take a look at the statewide map and list to plan your next outdoor adventure.
The "Read to Lead" program is an excellent way to introduce your kids to the many wonders of our state parks. Many parks will feature special activities during their featured weeks, and the books are available at select state parks or at your local library. View the reading list and entry form, or pick up a copy at the Mercer Library.
